Cher Is Leavin' Las Vegas

Movie Music Television Entertainment icon Cher has announced today that she will be ending her three year run in Las Vegas. The show, simply titled "Cher", will end its run February 5th, 2011. By the end of the run, the show will have played over 200 times to the 4,300 seat Colosseum at Ceasers Palace.  

Cher will then be going on tour. She could quite possibly be the hardest working woman in showbiz!

Blockbuster To File For Bankruptcy Tomorrow

The once mighty Blockbuster chain will be filing for bankruptcy tomorrow before Wall Street opens up. The chain has been dealt blow after blow as they slowly tried to keep up with the Netflix and Redbox's of the world. While this doesn't necessarily mean they will close, no company has ever been de-listed from the Stock Exchange and turned it around enough to remain open. Unfortunately, they truly could have turned it around, as the mega chain was once the dominant home entertainment player. They reacted way to slowly to industry change to remain viable and now they're facing the consequences.

Kevin Smith To Pen Horror Film

Super-nerd and fellow Pop Culture Whore Kevin Smith will be writing and directing a horror film. "Red State" portrays a crazed preacher who attempts giving a rag tag gang of teenagers a taste of "extreme fundamentalism". It is loosely based on psycho hate monger Fred Phelps of the infamous Westboro Baptist Church. John Goodman has also signed on to star.

J Lo & Steven Tyler Named Idol's New Judges

As if you're all SOOOOO shocked. It was announced today that Jennifer Lopez & Aerosmith frontman Steven Tyler will be on the judging panel along with Randy Jackson. Simon, Ellen and Kara DioGuardi are no longer with the show for various reasons. J. Lo didn't have much going on, so it makes sense that she's available. Steven Tyler has just been feuding with his band and leaving rehab.

American Idol Allows Online Auditions

For the first time in American Idol's history, they will be allowing auditions submitted via MySpace. Eligible contestants will submit videos of themselves singing and upload them to the MySpace.com/AmericanIdol page. Producers will pick through the results. More details are forthoming.

The 10th season of American Idol starts in January.

Oprah & Mark Burnett To Start OWN View

Obviously, Oprah is one smart cookie. Mother O is working with superstar reality producer Mark Burnett on not one but TWO upcoming shows for OWN. The first has been previously reported as "Oprah's Search For The Next TV Star". The winner will, obviously, get a talk show on the upcoming network. The new talk is that Mother O will also be teaming with Burnett on a "View-like" multiple host show to air in the daytime. No word on whether Oprah will appear daily, semi-regularly a la Barbra Walters or if she'd even appear at all.

Smart business move, though!

Law & Order: Criminal Intent Gets Final Season

USA has officially ordered a 10th and final season of Law & Order: Criminal Intent. The show, which was on the brink of cancellation this summer, has been picked up for 8 episodes. Jeff Wachtel, president of Original Programming at USA says,: “We have been the fortunate caretakers of this legendary series, and we plan to give it the world-class farewell it so richly deserves. Dick and his team promise to create a major event for television with incredible surprises. The plan is for this to be the series finale, but with a Dick Wolf franchise, one really never knows until it’s over.”

So there ya have it. Criminal Intent, one of the many Law & Order spin offs, will have it's final season - or it's not it's final season!

Oprah's Next Book Club Pick Is....

OK Book Whores, this one's for you! While it won't be officially revealed until tomorrow's Oprah show, Mother O has chosen her new pick for her Book Club. The pick is: Freedom by Jonathan Franzen. You may remember Franzen from all the way back in 2001. Oprah chose his book The Corrections as a Book Club pick and catapulted him into the public consciousness and onto the very top of book charts around the world.  Franzen then made the crazy mistake of talking ill of Mother O in an interview, stating that Oprah's choosing his book probably turned off potential male readers. While Mother O didn't have him off-ed (though she thought about it), she did cancel his appearance on her show to discuss the novel. In her 25th and final season, Mother O is all about forgiveness and moving forward and she's chosen his newest as her pick. Do you see what happens with forgiveness?

The ratings are in for the Season 3 finale of True Blood. The first run on Sunday drew 5.38 million viewers, up from the 5.10 million from the Season 2 finale.

The Governator Mocks Sarah Palin

Pop Singer Rich Cronin Passes From Cancer

It is a sad day here at the Pop Culture Whore offices. We have lost a friend in LFO singer Rich Cronin. Rich passed yesterday after a stroke. He had been battling Leukemia for quite some time and while he fought very hard for years, it finally overcame him. He was one of the most talented songwriters in pop music and he will be missed. R.I.P. Rich Cronin 1975 - 2010
